On 12th April 2005 the European Commission released a series of three communications examining the progress by the EU as a whole and its individual Member States towards attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These three communications, known as the "MDG package", were based on a Commission survey and nationally produced MDG reports. They were intended as the EU's contribution to the High-Level Millennium Review at the UN General Assembly in New York in September 2005. The "MDG package" communications assess progress against all the MDG goals and the EU's Monterrey agreements (Barcelona Commitments). They also make proposals for speeding up progress in the areas of finance for development, aid effectiveness, policy coherence and Africa. The following communications make up the 2005 MDG package: - "Speeding up progress towards the Millennium Development Goals. The European Union's contribution" (COM (2005) 132a)
- "EU report on Millennium Development Goals 2000 - 2004 EU Contribution to the review of the MDGs at the UN 2005 High Level Event" (COM (2005) 132b)
- "Accelerating progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals financing for development and aid effectiveness" (COM (2005) 133a):
- "Annex to the Communication from the Commission Accelerating progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals: EU follow-up to the Barcelona Commitments and operationalisation of the Monterrey Consensus" (COM (2005) 133b)
- "Policy coherence for development. Accelerating progress towards attaining the Millennium Development Goals" (COM (2005) 134)
