Brussels, 29/02/08: The EU's High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), Javier Solana, issued a statement on Thursday in which he welcomed the agreement reached by the President of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki, and the opposition leader, Raila Odinga. According to Mr Solana, "this is a very important agreement that will enable Kenya to return to stability and prosperity and will also have a positive impact throughout the region."

In his statement, Mr Solana also paid tribute to all those who had worked to secure the agreeement, in particular to Kofi Annan, to the panel of eminent persons and to the President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, who is also the President of the African Union.
