SAAPE Delegation on Food Sovereignty

SAAPE LogoBrussels, 15 November 2006: On 3 - 9 November, EEPA was delighted to host a delegation of civil society representatives from the South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE).

The delegation was made up of the following people: Mr Prem Dangal (All Nepal Peasants' Association - Nepal), Dr G.V Ramanjaneyulu (Centre for Sustainable Agriculture - India), Mr Rezaul Karim Chowdhury (COAST Trust - Bangladesh) and Dr Shahid Zia (Lok Sanjh Foundation - Pakistan).

Report from Barbados: 18 November
Women working in fields in HyderabadBridgetown, Barbados 18/11/06: ACP/EU parliamentary discussions have started, before the formal opening of the 12th session of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly, with the now traditional Women’s Forum. Numerous challenges faced by informal women traders were identified in this session dedicated to the role of women in the informal economy.
Rhoda Reddock from the Centre for Gender and Development Studies highlighted the negative consequences of economic liberalisation for informal women traders. She noted that “liberalisation led to more imports of cheap food products therefore contributing to the decline of local agricultural industry."

Seminar on EU aid programming to the MDGs - Impossible Architecture?
