Letter from the German Presidency about implementation of Development Cooperation Instrument

German EU Presidency 2007Brussels, 14/02/07: The Head of the European Union Division in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Dr Friedrich Kitschelt, has written to a number of civil society organisations in response to concerns which they had raised in a previous letter.

In his response to representatives from Eurostep, Deutsche Welthungerhilfe (DWHH), International Federation Terre des Hommes (IFTDH) and WEED, Dr Kitschelt wrote that the German government shares the concerns which they had raised about the draft CSPs for countries falling under the scope of the Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI).

German EU Presidency shares Eurostep's concerns on CSPs under the DCI

Monday 5 February.  Eurostep received an answer from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) responding to a letter asking for the Ministry’s comments on the screening of the draft Country Strategy Papers (CSPs) under the newly established Development Cooperation Instrument (DCI). In its response the Ministry stated that the German Government shares the concerns expressed by Eurostep. They also state that as the current EU President they will pay specific attention to ensuring that the EU Commission takes into account the results of the consultation with the European Parliament. European Parliament resolution on the human rights situation of the Dalits in India

EP_Plenary.jpgBrussels, 02/02/07: The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on the human rights situation of the Dalits in India.

During their mini-plenary meeting in Brussels on 1 February 2007, MEPs adopted the resolution which had been tabled by the Committee on Development.

The motion for a resolution was tabled as a follow up to the Committee on Development's hearing on the issue of the Dalits in India on 18 December 2006.
